Well, it is a cheap full-cost carrier compared to the other airlines. Recently, they allow passengers to purchase prepaid luggage to increase their luggage weight which was helpful for us as we needed an extra 10kg each >.<
The airport there has free wifi and drinkable water for you to refill your bottles as well.

Older planes tend to have some items/equipment spoilt; e.g. TVs not working, TV remote not responsive and cannot be placed back in the holder, seat unable to recline. The seats on older planes are smaller too.
Service
Well.. There are hospitable crews as well as "can't be bothered" crew..
Transit at Vietnam Airport
I think that having enjoyed the convenience of our Singapore Airport, Vietnam Airport was a very different experience for us. The plane doesn't stop directly to the airport itself. You need to walk down a flight of stairs and board their bus. The bus will then drive you to the arrival entrance to the airport. There is not much shops in the airport; and food are rather expensive (priced in USD).
Announcements on changes or delays are relayed to passengers late. At the transfer area, we saw that our boarding gate is at 15. At 5pm plus or so (close to our initial boarding time of 5.30pm), they announced that our boarding gate has been changed to another gate. Then when we are supposed to be boarding soon, we are notified that our flight will be delayed for another hour.
Overall:
Unless you are looking for a cheap full-cost carrier and can overlook those issues, I won't really recommend this airline.

I'm planning to go japan from malaysia via the vietnam airlines. Do you need vietnam visa to transit through the vietnam airport?

DeleteI didnt require visa previously. We did not leave the airport also; hence we did not need to go through the immigration for vietnam.
