tteokbokki stew

Review:
There was a short queue when we were there but we were seated quite quickly. You can choose your own toppings to your tteokbokki stew! I don't have a picture of the ordering paper but you can look >>here<< We were split into 2 groups since one table seats 4 pax only. So the 3 of us who can't take so spicy sat together. Also, we do not know how spicy the stew is, we didn't dare to order too much in case we can't finish it. But our other 3 friends ordered quite a lot!

It was nice! It's not too spicy. It is also a very affordable meal.

Recommended?
Yes, especially for tteokbokki lovers!

Street Churros
Type of Food: Churros
Store front

Review:
I have only ever eaten churros from 1 shop in Tanjong Pagar before. And the churros served in this shop is nice! We ordered 3 flavours (cause there was some promo), cinnamon, chocolate and soy bean. I especially like the cinnamon one, chocolate is good and last is the soy bean. But 1 of my friends' favourite is soy bean though! So depends on your preference.

The churros are prepared only when you order so it is freshly-made. And the texture is just right! Right amount of crispy-ness! YUM!

Recommended?
Yes! But this is the only Churro store I tried in Korea, so I have no idea whether this store sells the best churros.

Location: It's somewhere along the area where Meokswidonna is located. It has multiple stores in other location since it is a big franchise chain.

Our green tea drinks and pastries

Review:
What's a visit to Korea without visiting O'sulloc tea house? The store here is quite spacious and rather empty when we arrived. The store has 2 or 3 floors of seats. Each floor has its own condiments area with straws, sugar etc. The store also sells packaged tea bags. So if you want to buy some of their tea products back, just visit any O'sulloc store. I know there is a store at Insadong area that has a big store for their tea products.

We ordered a variety of pastries and drinks to share. There are 2 green tea latte, 1 green tea caramel latte, 2 green tea o fredo and 1 other type of tea with tea leaves in sachet (I can't rmb the flavour my friend ordered alrdy). I had the green tea latte but I tried the one with caramel and I liked that better though. Just to let you know, I am not a green tea fan.

We ordered 3 flavour of rolled cakes, green tea, caramel? and black tea.We also had green tea tiramisu. The rolled cakes are GOOD! Very soft and spongy; eat it with the cream inside, yum! It's not too sweet also. The tiramisu is taste ok to me only. Then again, I am not a tiramisu fan also. I can't take a lot of creamy food and tiramisu is a creamy pastry.

Recommended?
Yes! And if you are a fan of green tea products!

Ginseng chicken

Review:
The store is very big with plenty of seating spaces. So I guess even if there is a long queue, the queue should move quite fast. Side dishes are placed in a pot on the table and we were served tea and some alcohol. I read that you can pour the wine into the ginseng soup for more flavour. I tried a small sip of the wine to taste it and wow.. definitely not something you can drink in 1 mouthful; it's rather strong.

They serve normal chicken and black chicken ginseng. 2 of us shared 1 bowl of ginseng chicken. Apparently they prefer if you order 1 bowl each and the staff says 1 person can finish 1 bowl. Their stomach must be very big. It's a whole small chicken stuffed with glutinous rice! I'm pretty sure I can't finish one chicken thankyouverymuch. Clearly you can see that I am not happy with the staff. Of course, you can if you want to, but I am not gonna make myself so full that I can't try anything else for the rest of the day.

The ginseng chicken soup is the best I have drank so far; very rich and flavourful. The chicken were of course tender as well. Besides, since it is cold outside, having some hot soupy food is always very nice and comforting. Even sharing a bowl together, it was still a rather filling meal.

Abalone Porridge (10,000 won)

Mushroom Oyster Porridge (9,000 won)

Hot Seafood & Vegetable Porridge (9,500 won)

Crabmeat Porridge (9,000 won)

Review:
We didn't have to queue went we reach the shop at around 12 plus. The shop is quite small; seating around 10 plus people. They have a lot of variety of porridge to choose from.

The porridge served is a rather big portion. Since each of us ordered one bowl, some of us didn't managed to finished everything. It is piping hot, so it is very satisfying since it is cold outside. The porridge comes with cold apple tea & side dishes (kimchi, shredded beef, radish & some spicy paste which I'm not sure what that is).

I had the Mushroom Oyster Porridge and it is not too bad. Though after eating a bit, it taste bland, so I mixed the shredded beef which is flavoured into my porridge and it taste better! I tasted my friend's porridge as well and the kimchi porridge is quite spicy! The crabmeat porridge uses real crab meat; not the fake ones Singapore stalls like to use when they put the word crab meat..

If there is no queue and you are interested to try Korean traditional porridge!

Bibimbap

Review:
The store is quite big, so queues shouldn't be that big of an issue. Water and side dishes are available for you to take. It is quite cheap; I don't think they have items more than 8,000 won. The bibimbap is flavourful although they are also all spicy. Their bibimbap is a fusion of western and korean; with cheese & garlic, instead of their normal bibimbap which has a lot of variety of vegetables. Very affordable and tasty; albeit spicy meal!

Recommended?
If you like spicy, this fusion bibimbap is good & cheap! Just that it's a bit too spicy for me!

Homilpat (호밀밭)
Type of Food: Patbingsu
Store front

Watermelon bingsu & original milk patbingsu (5,500 won)
*can't recall the price for the watermelon bingsu*

Review:
The shaved ice is very smooth! In Singapore's weather, it would have melted into liquid within seconds! Add in the red beans, yumilicious! There is limited variety of flavours though. If I didn't remember wrongly, just the original milk bingsu, matcha bingsu, coffee bingsu & seasonal bingsu.

The store is quite small; seating capacity around 10 plus. We visited later than 6 pm and there was no queue. But we needed to wait a while since we need a table for 6 and the available ones either sit 2 or 4 people.

Recommended?
YES! YES! It's simple, original and delicious!

Review:
The store in Edae is very small, sits barely 10 people. Luckily, there were no people when we went in to eat!

Since it is just sandwiches, it is very affordable. This place would make a nice breakfast place! Even though we had it as dinner since we were feeling rather full >.< The toasts are prepared only when we order so it takes some time for the food to be prepared, but at least it is piping hot when when you get to eat it! It's tasty!!

Recommended?
Yes! Especially if you eat it for breakfast!

Location:
It's along the same stretch of road as Alchon! They have a lot of outlets around Seoul as well.

Pasta

Review:
Took us a while to find the store since it was raining that night; making it difficult to walk and find the store. Not much people when we arrived. The staffs were not able to communicate in English and we had a bit of difficulty in trying to ask them what food is not spicy here.

The pasta was not bad but I am not a bit fan of creamy things, so I can't stand eating too much pasta. There were a lot of rice cakes inside the pasta though, making it super filling. I think rice cakes taste better when spicy than in cream though. I think the korean army stew is quite nice though! But my friends who can take spicy food feel that it is not spicy enough to their liking..

Review:
A spacious enough store, there was no customers when we arrived. But if I didn't recall wrongly, we arrived a while after it opened, so maybe that's why there were no customers yet.

The drinks were good and the tarts were especially delicious! Fruits were fresh and the tarts is one of the best I have tasted! Yums! So missing their tarts right now!!

Review:
There are a lot of outlets in Seoul; go to their website and see which outlet can fit into your itinerary! The outlet in Sinsa is quite big! Not crowded when we were there! They provide free flow of some sort of tea.

Injeolmi Toast was interesting and yummy! Compared to the toast version, the injeolmi bingsu is not as nice though~ We should have tried another flavour of bingsu!! The melon bingu is yummy though! Half a melon covering the cheese and shaved iced inside with a tinge of melon juice flavour as well!

Sulbing also serves a lot of different variety of bingsu for you to try so you can definitely find something that you like!

The cafe is not very big but it was quiet when we arrived. There were a few other patrons. It provides free wifi and refillable ice water.

The food is yums! The bingsu here is very unique! Not too sweet and flavoured with orange and orange bits. The lemon pound cake and the chestnut tart thingy are all delicious! I think the food served here are all unique and yummy tasting! Would have loved to visit here to try their other pastries again! But I don't have time! >.<

Pan fried chicken

Review:
There was no queue when we were there and there were quite a number of empty seats available. The store is quite big.

We ordered a serving for 3 people to share and the food is good. The meat is well-seasoned and tender. At the same time, I don't find anything really special about this dish. I have never tried the Yoogane in Singapore though so I can't compare if there is any difference.

Myeongdong Kyoja (명동교자)
Type of Food: Noodles and kyoja

Review:
Seems that I forgot to take a photo of the store front. It's located on the second floor of a building. It was quite crowded in the store when we arrived but there were no queue.

You need to remember to stir the bowl of noodle before you start eating as there were some seasoning at the bottom of the bowl, which I only realised as I was finishing the noodle. The noodles and kyoja inside are tasty. The additional dumplings we ordered taste just average only. If you like your noodle spicy, you can eat it with the kimchi. Apparently my friends say the kimchi is spicier than most of the places we ate at. It is a filling meal; there is a generous portion of noodles.
